What Would You Do With 36 Basil Plants?

what-would-you-do-with-36-basil-plants

I love the smell and look of basil. Any kind of basil. I haven’t met one yet I didn’t love. So I ordered a 6-basil seed mix, since it was cheaper than buying all the separate varieties. Planted a bunch of them, and, as far as I can tell, they ALL sprouted. I wanted to be sure I got a good chance of getting at least one of each kind, so now I have 36 baby basils. It looks like I got a good mix. Some are going in my garden as companion plants to the tomatoes, but I guess I’ll pot up the rest and see if I can sell them for a buck or so apiece. Too late now to take a pic – no, actually, I’m just too tired to get up and go do it!

Working out there in this heat is killing me; at least most of the heavy work is done. Still have odds & ends to do, and growing babies to tend, but no more heavy lifting, thank God. It got up to 90-something today, and it’s still 80 degrees out there, at this hour. Okay, done whining.

Got a bunch of lettuce sprouted and growing. I’m going to try to grow them inside, in a window-box type planter under lights, to see what happens. It’s way to hot for lettuce outside, but tomatoes and cukes get pretty boring without lettuce after while. Need to go find out how day length relates to lettuce bolting, so I give them the best chance. I figure I can cover them at night, so they think it’s dark out. If it doesn’t work, all I’ve lost are some seeds and some time. No big. They need to get a bit bigger (and I need to mix up some soil mix) before they can go in the window box, though.

My to-do list is still a mile long, so I’m quitting for tonight to get some sleep.

LOl! I finally remembered to look at your garden blog. it is really pretty, and it looks like your garden is going to be spectacular. But thenm, your gardens are always spectacular. I would love it if when you fly out here next month, you started a couple of pots of pretty flowers/herb-type stuff for me. But I will warn you that I might kill the stuff because I never have time to remember. :(
have fun playing in hte dirt and monster mud. It looks really great, and your garden is going to be so pretty. Hopefully it won’t die when you fly out to see me and the boys.

Thanks, and I hope so. What kind of plants do you want, but it can be a bit problematic carrying plants on a plane. I don’t know if they even let you.

I don’t know what kind of plants I want. Stuff that is good for growing here in Colorado and that is drought resistant so that I don’t kill it when I forget to water them. And something pretty. May have to buy plants here, I don’t think lplants would be allowed on planes. An enclosed area with lots of people who might be allergic to them…
