Oh, My Aching Bones

oh-my-aching-bones

This old lady hasn’t done this much digging in years, and the body is letting me know it doesn’t appreciate the effort at all. Yesterday I finished filling the front 8″ portion of the bed, and made it my goal to finish the back 12″ portion today. I got out there and started digging, and my old body just wanted to curl up and die. I hurt so bad, between muscle aches and arthritis, but I kept telling myself I could do just a bit more. Finally my “bit more” turned into the part I wanted to finish. I was never so glad to see the last bucket of dirt go in!
Tomorrow, I’m going to try to finish it all, or at least part of it. Depends on how badly I’m hurting vs. how determined I am to finish it!
Here’s a pic of what I did the first day. Was too tired to take a pic today. I noticed in this pic that the dirt did not look at all level in that front portion, so before I started the back I fixed the front. Much better now.

Here’s a pic I took after I finished Round 1 of my dig-a-thon. You can see I finished filling the front portion of the bed.

  1. I feel for ya, SB! I tried to load a bunch of bags of composted manure into a cart at Lowe’s the other day (couldn’t find anyone to help). There were only a few bags left, all down on the floor, so it was quite a ways to lift up into the cart. I got the first one in, but the second one proved to be too much for me. Just as I got it half way over the edge of the cart, I got this awful twinge in my lower back, and I dropped the bag right onto the concrete. Yes, it broke open, and yes, I walked out of the store and just left it there….served them right for not having someone to help! So now I evidently have a pinched nerve, and after just a few minutes of standing in one place (like at the kitchen sink or stove), my left thigh starts burning and goes completely numb yet hot and painful. Just what I need at the beginning of garden season!

OUCH! That stinks. Very bad timing, kind of like my shoulder from the big bag of potting soil. That pinched nerve sounds very painful, have you gone to
dr. about it? Or a chiropractor maybe? Hope it feels better soon.
