Wow. Finally remembered to buy a sweet potato at the store to try and grow slips to plant. Yea, I know, it’s late, but we have plenty of summer left in which to grow them, unfortunately. Can you believe it hit 100 degrees today? In MARCH? it’s just not right!
Anyway, I guessed on which end goes in the water. (more…)

Been really involved in getting this blog ready for public consumption. I used WordPress, about which I knew nothing, and I wanted to make it “gardeny.” Learned alot, mostly by trial and alot of error, but here ya go. Finally got it looking, and working, mostly like I want it. A few minor fixes, but good to go. (more…)

It’s been in the low 50′s to mid-40′s with constant dreary, drippy rain since that front blew in about 3 am the other night. I hope all those poor Spring-Breakers brought their winter coats as well as the bikinis to Padre Island. I bet they aren’t the least bit pleased with this weather, no matter how much we need the rain. (more…)

Got my first bunch of new seeds yesterday, got them soaking now, prior to sowing. Hope they work better than most of the other seeds. Got one hot pepper, one Lilac pepper, which I’ve grown before and really liked, some tomatoes, nasturtiums, and herbs. (more…)

I have an old tomato cage that had been used for an ivy to climb, but the poor thing died after one too many moves. I had an inspiration one night, to turn the cage upside down, (more…)

Whew! Busy weekend. My bed is finally almost ready for the “dirt.” DH finished it yesterday, so I started putting down cardboard, prior to landscape fabric. Today I put down what landscape fabric I had, but ran out before I finished.
Off to Big Orange for some more. Bad, very bad! Walked in there and saw all those plants. I tried to resist, really, I did, but… (more…)

Got the plan, now I need the stuff. These veggies better be good, cuz they’re costing me a fortune! The only thing I had left from prior gardens was a bunch of 10-year-old seeds. They’re not all that old, but some are. I bought a shelf, lights, “dirt”, and even had to buy a trowel. Not to mention the lumber to build the beds and the Mel’s Mix to fill them… (more…)

I grew up following my Grandma and my Dad around their gardens. Grandma and Grandpa had 11 acres of sandy soil in central Monmouth County, NJ. Grandpa did the veggies; Grandma did the flowers. (more…)
